My Home, Your War, my first feature documentary which was partially funded by Screen Australia, and currently distributed by Women Make Movies New York. I directed, wrote, and co-produced this one hour film which follows a family through the war in Iraq over three years. The film is told through the eyes of mother and wife, Layla Hassan. I documented how family life changed from the last days of Saddam Hussein's reign to the chaos post US invasion. The film depicts how a young teenage boy went from shy computer geek to radicalised young man; and Layla, an independent, intelligent women is forced indoors and under the veil, in order to stay safe. In the film I used multimedia storytelling devices, combining audio, news footage, emails, and Layla's video diary to tell the story. The film was first broadcast on SBS and subsequently sold all over the world, winning many awards, including the New York Film Festival's Gold World Medal for Best Documentary as well as the Australian Television and Media Awards for Best Documentary.
